Ohio Trail Running Coalition

Ohio in Forefront of Future of Trail Running?

Ohio Trail Running Coalition

Over the last several years hiking has skyrocketed in popularity in Ohio and nationally.

The sport of running also continues grow and be very popular.

A hybrid of both called “trail running” combines the two (hiking and trail running) has also picked up in popularity over the years.

Trail running is a sport and recreational activity where one runs or jogs on hiking trails.

Ohio, in fact, has an incredible inventory of hiking trails and hiking is currently booming in the State.

Additionally, Ohio is a fantastic running state with organized races occurring every week throughout the state. There are also a good number running clubs throughout the state.

Ohio also has a pretty good base of trailing running clubs and races throughout the state.

We believe Ohio is posed to be in the forefront of an explosion in popularity of trail running and could lead the nation in this sport if only a few steps are implemented.

This is why we have created our trail running coalition. With a collaborative effort of partnerships and alliances of statewide  park and outdoor organizations we believe Ohio can launch and lead a trail running revolution.

The strikingly one missing variable that has prevented trailing from growing into a nationally recognized sport is its lack of inventory of organized and marked hiking trails. It’s possible Ohio doesn’t even have one trail specifically marked for trail running and we are about to change that.

Let’s not wait for the nation to let another decade go by before anyone addresses this oversight.

Trail running is sadly landlocked due to a non-existent infrastructure, no inventory of marked trails and a lack of organizational efforts and marketing.

Ohio , let’s take the lead.
